Red Carpets Galore

Pretty Things

Awards season is well and truly underway, both here and across the pond, so I thought I would share a few of my favourite dresses.

The Golden Globes started us off on Sunday 15th January, and for me this event had the best fashion (so far). So many beautiful dresses - they definitely started with a bang.
                                     Sofia Vergara,                                                                    Julie Bowen
Sofia Vergara, from Modern Family
Wow! Her body looks stunning in this Vera Wang gown. Her simple hair and make-up let the dress do all the talking, resulting in a sexy yet sophisticated look.

Julie Bowen, from Modern Family
Photos do not do this dress justice. Watching her walk the red carpet on E!, this Reem Acra dress was so soft and flowed beautifully. Unfortunately, her pale skin tone combined with excessive camera lighting mean the delicate peach colour looks washed out. Just trust me, this is a beautiful dress.

The Baftas were held in London on Sunday 12th February. After being so impressed by the Golden Globes, I'm sorry to say that the Baftas let me down. I don't know if it was the cold weather, but most celebs seemed to play it pretty safe.

Naomie Harris, soon to be Bond girl
I'm so glad Naomie decided to brave the February weather and wear this flowing yellow gown. Maybe it's because she's British and used to the cold? The Emilio Pucci dress complimented her skin tone, and I love that she decided to go natural with her hair.

Fearne Cotton, Presenter
The fact that the presenter is one of my best dressed says a lot about the fashion on offer at the Baftas. I've seen this demure Moschino gown described as "burnt orange", but on TV and also in photos it looks more pink-y. It's funny how colour can get lost in translation. Regardless - I like it. Fearne's quirkiness can sometimes get lost on me, so I was surprise to like her dress so much.

The Grammys were held on the same night, and had what could best be described as a mixed atmosphere. The death of Whitney Houston definitely left a cloud hanging over the music awards. However, there was also a lot of buzz and excitement over Adele's performance. Some of the outfits were downright crazy, and others a little too ghetto for my tastes. However, there were a few which tickled my fancy.

Adele, Singer
Firstly, it's so great to have her back after some time off. Our first dance was actually to an Adele song. Also, she won SIX Grammys - amazing! I did like her dress, it sparkled sooo much. But what really blew me away was her hair, make-up and jewelry. Stunning, sophisticated, elegant. What more can I say? Oh, and the dress is by Armani.

                        Paris Hilton, ummm, IT girl?
OK, now this is a controversial one for me. I can't say I'm a fan, and she could definitely do with a few carbs, but lets focus on the Basil Soda dress. I love the contrast of the structured top and soft, tulle bottom. I think the mix of fabrics works so well, and the metalic belt gives it an edge - stopping it from being too "girly".

Whew - that post was a PAIN to write. The pictures just would not behave. Anyway, roll on the Oscars!
